About Us
For us, the oral health of the little ones is a main concern.
We firmly believe in prevention:
The treatment of your habits-from the way you breathe, to sucking your finger, as well as your hygiene routines-is the best method to solve future problems, such as cavities or inappropriate ways of biting, before they manifest.

We are very excited to see you and your child at your first consultation with us.
Your child’s first consultation will begin with a review of his or her medical and dental history. Afterwards, Dr. will explain that they will “count” their child’s teeth and show them in a mirror. If the child is less than 3 years old, we will probably do what is called a “lap exam”. You will hold and calm the child as he sits between his knee and that of Dr.; As the children grow up, they will be shown how to take a ride in the dental chair.
After the exam, the patient’s teeth can be cleaned and polished. We also recommend fluoride treatment in the review to help prevent cavities. If necessary, we will take “pictures” or x-rays of the child’s teeth. Finally, Dr. will create a personalized treatment plan and answer any questions you may have.
Your first consultation will be completely dedicated to your child. We want our patients to feel calm and happy so they can leave with a perfect smile.
It is natural for young children to feel anxious at their first visit, especially if they have had negative prior experiences or heard negative comments about going to the dentist. Well, going to the children’s dentist is completely different. There are several things you can do to help prepare your child for this day.
It is preferable to tell the patient that he will go to the children’s dentist. To diminish fear we like to explain what we do with a language they understand.
A complete examination, cleaning with application of fluoride and x-rays can be explained as “counting teeth”, “brushing teeth with a special brush that tickles”, “painting teeth with vitamins to make them strong”, and “taking pictures” of the teeth”.
Children form attitudes about consultations with the dentist mostly based on the attitudes they observe in their parents, friends and siblings; therefore, it is better to be positive and to be excited about this great day.
We believe that parents have a great responsibility regarding the oral health of their children. Therefore, we always invite parents to enter the exam room with their children and share the experience.
Parents should also try to avoid negative words when referring to their visit to the dentist. By avoiding words such as “pain,” “drill,” “injection,” and “take out,” it will allow the patient to better adapt to this new environment. We believe in being honest with all of our patients, however, we have realized that the use of different, easy-to-understand terms for children helps greatly in mitigating their fears.
Please DO NOT SAY, “Do not worry” or “It will not hurt”. Children are not told that when their parents take them to the supermarket, for example. When parents use those words in the office, a place that the child does not know, this makes them suspect immediately. It is preferable to say, “You will see how easy it is!”
In general, the less preparation, the better. Despite their good intentions, parents often give inaccurate and confusing information. The dental staff is specially prepared to guide the child comfortably during the consultation and will explain each step of the process.
We ask that you keep in mind that it may not be possible to perform a cleaning in the first consultation. Children adapt to procedures at their own pace. We proceed based on the patient’s rhythm.
Sometimes parents try to talk to the child while the dentist talks and demonstrates the procedures. Children may get confusing messages. Try to allow the pediatric dentist to guide the child.
Consider that it is normal for a baby or small child to cry at first.
We recommend parents to show their children the following link of the AAPD to help them feel more relaxed about the first consultation:
The US Odontology Association UU recommends that children visit the dentist every six months for periodic checkups and routine dental cleanings to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
Periodic reviews are an important part of maintaining a healthy smile!
QUOTES:
We know that time is very valuable; Therefore, we will do everything possible to start our appointments on time. Please, be on time. We ask that you understand that the nature of an odontopediatric clinic includes emergencies that may alter our schedule. We will inform you of any wait upon arrival, if any. Please extend this courtesy to those families, just as you would expect for yourself if your child were going through an emergency.
If you can not keep an appointment, please notify us 24 hours in advance so we can offer the space for that appointment to another child who requires treatment. Fees will be imposed for missing the appointment if not notified in sufficient time. After the third failure to an appointment, you could be removed from the COI. After missing two appointments with several siblings, the siblings will be placed on separate appointments. In case of bad weather that prevents you from reaching the appointment, please call the office to cancel or reschedule the appointment.
The presence of parents or legal guardians is required in ALL consultations. Stepparents, grandparents, siblings and uncles are not legal guardians and, therefore, can not accompany the child without authorization from the parent or legal guardian. Everyone accompanying the child must be 18 years of age or older. Tutors assigned by a court must provide judicial documentation before the first appointment. Smoking is prohibited in the building. The use of obscene language will definitely result in you being discharged from the COI.
At COI we offer several payment options that allow patients to obtain optimal oral health. Payment is required at the time of consultation. Please understand that the parent or guardian accompanying the child to the appointment is responsible for making the payment for the consultation. For legal reasons, we can not send payment requests to third parties. We invite you to contact a member of our friendly staff to discuss your payment options and get help with processing your insurance.
For your convenience, we accept payments in:
CashWire transferCheckVisa MasterCard
We will calculate your payment fee in the first consultation, which must be paid at the treatment appointment (sealants, fillers, etc.) As a courtesy, if you bring all the information about your insurance to your initial consultation, we will gladly send your verification to insurance for you since we work with a company that is responsible for carrying out the necessary procedures to be able to charge for the service.
Please note that we send insurance claims as a courtesy to our patients. We do not have a contract with your insurance company. The contract is between you and your insurance company. We are not responsible for the benefits paid for a claim. We can only help you estimate your share for the cost of treatment. We can not be held responsible for errors in the processing of your claim. Our staff will gladly help you by answering questions about your dental insurance.
NO DENTAL INSURANCE PAYS 100% OF THE PROCEDURES.
Dental insurance is an aid to receive dental services. Most plans pay 50 to 80% of the total average rates. Normally, the amount you pay is determined based on how much you or your employer paid for the coverage or type of contract your employer has established with your insurance company.
OUR OFFICE DOES NOT DETERMINE THE BENEFITS.
You will have noticed that in some cases your dental insurance reimburses you or the dentist at a lower rate than the dentist. Often, insurance companies say that the reimbursement was reduced because the dentist’s fees exceeded the usual, customary or reasonable (UCR) rate used by the insurance company. Insurance companies set their own rates based on information about the rates of the claims they process and each insurance company has different rates that they consider allowable. Many times, these permitted rates may not be updated and vary based on the type / cost of the plan that has been chosen. Unfortunately, this suggests that the dentist charges too much, rather than the insurance company paying too little. In general, the more affordable the dental coverage, the lower the UCR (usual, customary and reasonable rate).
DEDUCTIBLES AND PRE-PAYMENTS MUST BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT.
When calculating dental benefits, it is important to take into account deductibles and percentages (co-payments). It is very important that you keep our office up to date with any changes in your insurance. That will expedite the processing of your claim and allow us to calculate the charges correctly.
If your child is a patient in our office and has a true dental emergency (inflammation, trauma or uncontrolled bleeding), please call us at (664) 524 6008 or (664) 524 5994.
We will do everything possible to care for your child as soon as possible. Please note that if you call after hours, we may not return the call until the next day. Please refer to the sections on Dental Emergencies for additional instructions.
We always welcome parents to treatment. Our experience has taught us that children concentrate better with a father who remains silent in the room where we serve him.
This allows the patient to establish a relationship with the Dr. and thus have a more positive experience. If you decide to accompany your child to the operating room, we recommend that ONLY a parent enters with the child and we ask that you feel like a silent observer. If you plan to stay with your child, please take the necessary precautions for the care of your other children since we do not allow unattended young children in the waiting room.
We ask that cell phones be silenced in the operating rooms as a courtesy to the dentist, staff and other patients. It is strictly forbidden to bring food to the operating rooms.
